Sleep & Stress

Solutions

Sleep is the foundation everything else builds on.

The nutrients that support how well you fall asleep, stay asleep, and recover from stress. Magnesium is the mineral most adults are deficient in, and the one with the strongest research backing for sleep quality, muscle relaxation, and stress resilience.

Why it matters

Why sleep and stress are nutrient problems, not just lifestyle ones.

One in three UK adults reports poor sleep quality. The default advice is the same it has always been: blue light, caffeine, screens, routines. Useful, but only part of the picture.

Magnesium is one of the most studied nutrients for sleep, muscle relaxation, and the body's stress response. UK dietary surveys consistently show most adults fall short of the daily reference intake. Stress depletes it further (your body uses more magnesium when cortisol is elevated). The result is a quiet, slow-building deficiency that shows up as restless nights, tight muscles, anxious days, and the kind of tiredness that does not lift with sleep.

The other commonly under-consumed nutrients here are vitamin D (UK adults are widely deficient, especially October to April) and zinc (linked to normal cognitive function and protein synthesis, both of which underpin recovery).

The nutrients

What actually supports sleep and stress.

Magnesium contributes to:
  • Normal psychological function (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Normal muscle function (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Reduction of tiredness and fatigue (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Normal energy-yielding metabolism (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Normal nervous system function (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Electrolyte balance (GB Authorised Health Claim)
  • Maintenance of normal bones and teeth (GB Authorised Health Claim)
Why three forms in one capsule

Different magnesium forms have different absorption profiles and tissue affinities. Magnesium Citrate is well-studied and highly bioavailable. Magnesium Bisglycinate is gentle on the stomach and frequently chosen for evening dosing. Magnesium Malate is associated with muscle energy. Combining all three covers more bases than a single-form formula.

Zinc (Citrate) contributes to normal cognitive function, normal protein synthesis, and the protection of cells from oxidative stress (GB Authorised Health Claims). Zinc deficiency is associated with reduced sleep quality in research.
Vitamin D3 contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function, normal bones, and the normal function of the immune system (GB Authorised Health Claims). Most UK adults are deficient between October and April when sunlight is too weak for skin synthesis.

How to take it

Best time: With your evening meal, ideally 1-2 hours before bed.

With food or empty stomach: With food. Magnesium absorbs better with a meal containing some fat or protein.

How long until you notice: Most people report changes in sleep and muscle relaxation within 1-2 weeks of daily use. Cellular magnesium stores take time to build.

Pairing: Magnesium pairs well with vitamin D3 (already in this formula) and B6 (consider adding if working on stress).

What is NOT in the bottle

Cleaner than the supermarket alternative.

  • No magnesium stearate (the manufacturing lubricant most supplements use)
  • No titanium dioxide
  • No artificial colours, flavours, or sweeteners
  • No bulking agents or unnecessary carriers
  • No gluten, dairy, soy, or GMOs
  • Vegan capsule shell (plant-based HPMC)
Common questions

Sleep, stress, and magnesium FAQs.

Can I take this if I am trying to conceive?

Yes. Magnesium is one of the 26 nutrients in our Fertility Advance and Fertility Focus formulas already. Triple Magnesium Complex is also fine to take alongside any of our fertility formulas if you specifically want extra support for sleep or muscle recovery. Check with your fertility nutritionist if you are unsure about stacking.

Will it make me drowsy during the day?

No. Magnesium does not cause drowsiness in the way a sedative does. It supports the body's normal stress response and muscle relaxation, which often improves sleep quality at night without affecting daytime alertness. Many people take it with dinner or just before bed for the most noticeable evening benefit.

What is the difference between magnesium forms?

Citrate is highly bioavailable and well-studied for general magnesium support. Bisglycinate (also called glycinate) is bound to the amino acid glycine which makes it gentle on the digestive system and frequently chosen for evening doses. Malate is bound to malic acid and is associated with cellular energy production. Combining all three covers more biological pathways than a single-form formula.

Can children take this?

Triple Magnesium Complex is formulated for adults. For children's daily support, see our Kids Immune Support Gummies, which are dose-sized for ages 3+. For children with specific magnesium needs, speak to your GP or paediatric nutritionist.

How long until I notice a difference?

Most people report improvements in sleep quality, muscle relaxation, or stress resilience within 1 to 2 weeks of consistent daily use. Magnesium stores in your cells take time to rebuild, so taking it for 4 to 6 weeks gives the clearest picture of how it is working for you.

Can I take this with other supplements?

Yes for most. Magnesium pairs well with vitamin D (already in this formula) and B6 if you take a separate B-complex. Avoid taking magnesium at the same time as iron or zinc supplements (they compete for absorption); space them by at least 2 hours.
